Happy Birthday Dave!

David Michael Murray es un guitarrista y compositor, más conocido por ser uno de los miembros originales Iron Maiden. Se unió a la banda sólo dos meses después de su creación en 1975. As a child, Murray was a fanatic soccer player, as well as cricket fan. But his family was poor, his father was disabled and his mother worked part-time as a cleaner and the family never settled anywhere long enough for Murray could be established in any of the school teams which could have played time. On his own, he was in a dozen different schools, then leave for their sake at the age of 16 years. Murray developed an interest in rock when he was 15 after hearing «Voodoo Child» by Jimi Hendrix on the radio. He got his first guitar and formed his first band, a trio called Stone Free. This band also included Adrian Smith (guitar / vocals) who later became a member of Iron Maiden.

From there, Murray had played with a number of different bands before meeting Steve Harris and joining Iron Maiden for the first time in 1976. The Murray guitar style throughout his career has been mainly based on a variety of single legato. This can be seen in the songs of the first self-titled as «Phantom Of The Opera», or songs from his latest album «The Final Frontier», as in «The Man Who Would Be King» album. The sound and style of Dave is distinguished from Janick Gers and Adrian Smith, mostly because of its frequent use of the neck pickup. Murray has also written for the band, but it does not compare with those of other members of the band. Usually, leaving the issue letters to another person, he has written songs like «The Prophecy» and «Charlotte the Harlot». Murray and Steve Harris are the only members of Iron Maiden that have appeared in each of the albums of the band. In his spare time Murray is an avid golfer, as seen in the DVD Rock in Rio. Murray and his wife have a daughter named Tamar Tasha.
